Green Initiatives

Green Products and Services
Blachford continuously looks for ways to introduce products that help our customers with their own green initiatives. Below are a few examples:

Decreasing effluent, build up on equipment and landfill volumes

  • Blachford has not used zinc stearate in our rubber anti-tack agent formulations since the mid 1990s when no zinc in plant effluents regulations was being implemented and enforced. Zinc reacts with chlorine at treatment plants and forms zinc chloride which is a poison to the bacteria and inhibits performance.
  • Chemlube® 73 is a non-zinc lubricant developed for impact extrusion of aluminum. The Chemlube® 73 can be removed from the finished part using just high pressure water. Removal of traditional zinc stearate lubricant requires trichloroethylene (TCE), a hazardous controlled substance requiring workplace restrictions and disposal constraints for the spent fluid.
  • Zinc stearate 149 and 249 are "reclaimed" products sold to forgiving applications thus reducing landfill.
  • Caplube® G, J & L are non-zinc lubricants for powdered metal parts. These are useful for eliminating or reducing zinc oxide residues in the sintering oven flues and elements.
  • Chemdraw® 1063 is a "no wash" metal stamping and drawing fluid which leaves the part surface clean enough so that it no longer requires washing prior to the application of surface coating. This significantly reduces the amount of effluent created.
  • All rubber products are recyclable prior to vulcanization and can simply be reprocessed with no scrap. After vulcanization, rubber is ground up into fine granules and added as filler or used for various recycled products.
  • Polyester fibre used in some of our Barymat® and Conasorb® products is completely recyclable.
  • Our PVC and EVA barrier, as well as our damping sheet, are recyclable and can be ground up and reprocessed.
  • Closed cell rubber foam can be ground up and recycled.

Decreasing unwanted deposits

  • JemFlo 50 is a water-proofer for concrete products. It prevents "efflorescence" on the concrete (i.e. the white deposit caused by the formation of calcium and magnesium carbonates).

Decreasing energy usage

  • Caplube® J lowers the ejection pressure for powder metal parts which saves energy.
  • Our spray-on damping liquid is more energy efficient compared to damping sheets because it saves the cost of having to calendar or extrude the damping material. Rather, the damping liquid is sprayed directly onto the substrate.
  • Blachford's Thermo-B heat shield and acoustical products function as heat insulators in general, reducing the thermal load on customers' truck cabs, thus reducing HVAC energy consumption.
  • Chemdraw® 1063 is a "no wash" metal stamping and drawing fluid which leaves the part surface clean enough so that it no longer requires washing prior to the application of surface coating. This reduces or eliminates the need for a hot wash station, thereby significantly decreasing energy usage.

Biodegradable

  • Quintolubric® hydraulic oils are biodegradable, unlike mineral based oils.

Noise reduction

  • Virtually all of the products BInc and BRP produce are designed to reduce either operator or environmental noise (both outdoors and room to room).
